Pet Peeve

One of my biggest pet peeves is newscasters, or anyone, who uses the phrase "of a".  For example: "How much 'of a' difference would that make."  Saying those two words in most instances is not necessary.  That sentence above would have made much more sense if the person would simply have said "How much difference would that make".

When I was growing up, my friends used to say that all the time.  My English and Extemporaneous speaking teacher had fits whenever she heard people speak that way and I guess it stuck with me!  There are many other examples of things people continuously say wrong (anywayS is a big one) so I guess nothing is going to change - - at least not anytime soon.

Also, the word "that" is completely overused, usually in the wrong context.
