The numbers are already outrageous.  It can only get worse if people continue to listen to state and other officials, too.  In states where it's supposed to be mandatory for kids (which is illegal in the first place) parents need to rise up and resist or they need to pull their kids from public schools and homeschool or group homeschool them.  It's the only option they have.  NO MORE ONLINE LEARNING FOR THE LITTLEST KIDDO'S.  It's been a disaster.
