As a side note, povidone iodine is reddish brown and it stains, so you must be careful with it.  I have some in my medicine chest as we speak because I've used it for many things over the years.  It actually looks somewhat like the old fashioned (and now illegal) mercurochrome we used as children, with no problem at all.  Back then the manufactureres even used to put the mercurochrome RIGHT ON THE PAD of the band aids, imagine that. . . . . . .
