Actually, to me they look very similar to what we always called a "wild rose" which grew along the sides of the old gravel, country roads.  Sometimes they're white, sometimes they're very light pink.  Don't know if they are the same thing or not but they sure look the same.  Wish this article had shown more of the greenery that goes along with the flower, but the leaves on the wild roses that grow around here look a lot like German ivy leaves.  The plants here in this part of the country mostly only bloom in early spring and until about mid-summer and then they quit flowering.  They grow like a ground-cover, sort of, in that they do not grow tall but they sort of climb along other plants and grasses alongside the roads and creekbanks.  They do well in this part of the country even when the only moisture they get some years is from the morning dew!
