It's always a case of "too late smart".  People rarely THINK before they do stupid things.  As they age, things change and they often come to regret foolish ideas that youth can bring.  That's exactly how I feel about tatoos and nose rings, etc.  Pink hair can be changed easily.  A fake penis, not so much.
