If you think for one minute that some big and powerful families (like, say, the Rockefellers) aren't tied up in this Bayer/Monsanto thing, you're only fooling yourself.  It won't be long before this bunch of conniving egotists own the whole damned world.  They have their finger in every pie, to some degree.  Standard Oil Money went a helluva long ways over the past 100+ years.
