6 reasons to use borax

I use borax often, but not in every load.  Mostly I use it in my light colored clothes loads, or the whites.  I have found that borax is very hard on colored clothes - it lightens and fades them just like OxiClean products will do.  But maybe others have had luck using it in every load.  Guess you'll have to test it and see what works for you.  I used about 1/4 of what was recommended and it still faded my brightly colored clothes and blankets.  Maybe it's because I use soapnuts (which I order from the Farmer's Almanac site).  Maybe "store-bought" soaps would keep it from fading things, I don't know.  Again, you'll have to experiment but it's a pretty cheap addition to your laundry even if it's only used to whiten and brighten!
