Fried Apple Hand Pies

I would use coconut oil to fry them in never would I use peanut oil or wesson oil.  YUK!

Otherwise they sound terrific.  When I was growing up my Mom would make something similar and my twin brothers would take 3 in each hand, at one time.  They didn't last long that way!  That's why my Mom spent the majority of her life in the kitchen and was such an excellent cook/baker.

Sometimes she made pumpkin hand pies, whatever was available in our area in the fall.  She made peach ones once and they were gone so fast she never did that again because peaches were very expensive back then.  Hell, they still are.

She made a lot of other wonderful peach desserts, like peach custard pie, peach cobbler, peach galette, peach ice cream (my Dad was the iconic ice creamer!).  He loved to eat it as much as he loved to make it,  He would always get a little rock salt into the ice cream while churning it by hand but us kids looked forward to that.  He usually made plain vanilla ice cream and we added the toppings ourself to flavor it our individual ways.

I usually had cherry (by adding in some cherry jelly or jam preserves).  I still like Cherry jelly the best.  Especially on a whole grain English Muffin.  YUM!  Maybe a little peanut butter, too,

Re: Fried Apple Hand Pies

My husband's family liked the fried pumpkin pies best.  My MIL would make plachinda and that was excellent, not to mention a helluva lotta work!  I don't have a current recipe for that, so you'll have to look it up yourself.  It is also sometimes spelled Blachinda.  She always said PLACHINDA.  I suppose it depends on what part of Germany your family was from.

Recipes are almost always regional to each country, and I love how America has all of those ideas and recipes available now,  Mostly Germans and Dutch and Norwegians came to America back in the late 1800's.  My whole family is from either Sweden or Germany.  Some of my ancestral names prove it!
