I keep mine in an old, wire egg basket on top of my kitchen counter.  Always have unless we're going to be gone from the house for weeks at a time, which we used to be when I was judging dressage horsemanship performances all over the place (mostly in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming).

I buy eggs from a local chicken farmer and the yolks are so golden/bright yellow they look like little nuggets/orbs of pure gold!
