We're all on our own when it comes to our personal protection, and as far as I'm concerned, we're all far more capable of doing what needs to be done because we are not hampered by "rules and regulations" from the dimwit halls of gubmint.

Not the police, not 9-1-1, not NOBODY is gonna help us, so we must help ourselves.  Revolution anyone?  We need to fight another one all over again to prove to the idiots in charge who has the real power in this country.  And then, once we win, we clean house with a very large broom.
