. . . this was called "huffing" and kids did it all the time, smelling the aerosol fumes left in a can of lysol or something right before the can would quit spraying.  No one died that I know of but it's the same principal and many of them COULD have died, we just didn't realize how dangerous it was, I guess.  They did it in my day in order to "get high" without the use of marijuana and junk like that.
