    Is this where the "alien" speculation nonsense is coming from?

    I would guess so.  I don't recall hearing anything about any of this happening in the 1970's and my Dad was still ranching at that time.  We had a pretty big herd and nothing was done to them, making one wonder why all of this kind of crap always takes place along the southern border.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
