It's a name you really don't hear very often.  He was pivotal to the exploration of the west and southwest, but many people have never heard of him.  There are some accounts out there of other Joseph Walkers, so be careful not to mix them up!

Interesting, brave, and somehow managed to live to be elderly.  It's kind of amazing when you think of all the things these people faced in their lifetime, but there were several men who lived well into their 80's at that time in history.
