Winter Folklore (& solstice dates)

Lots of great information here.  Winter is my favorite time of year, but the older I get, the more cautious I become about going anywhere, outside of my own yard.  Some years we have tons of ice, some years we aren't bothered much with it at all.

We had some cold, snowy weather already this year - - enough freezing temps to ruin all the gardens, bushes and flowers.  Now, strangely and unwelcomed, it has been in the 60's and 70's.  Tomorrow is supposed to be 76 degrees.  Third week of November in the 70's is unbearable for those of us who cherish the cooler temps of winter.  This is NOT good news for us.  Besides, when it's warm this late in the year, it screws up the whole spring season, as well.

It's been terribly windy for the past 48 hours, enough so that we thought the windows on the east side of the house were going to explode !!
