We have made these many times, although we called ours a "Maine Shore Slosher". I have no idea where that name came from, however. My DH and I made some homemade pear hard cider a few years in a row because we had a very productive pear tree until the winter storm of 2013 broke it up so badly there was nothing to do but finish cutting it and give the wood away to friends who had a wood burning fireplace.
One year we mixed the pears and apples together because we got a boatload of apples from a friend down the road who has a big apple grove - - it was superb stuff - very boozy because we added more dark rum thinking it would help cut the sugary content. Boy, it sure did that!
But take my word for it, these are wonderful autumn drinks no matter which juice is predominant, if you're into that sort of thing. Be sure to test the first one on a weekend though, because it might make you want to STAY on the couch!
I've also included here, a link to the definition of what hard cider really is. Many people think it's just apple juice. Oh, it's much more than that . . .
