Have you ever heard of these two women?

In honor of black history month, The Federalist ran this story - - and I'm sure glad they did.  It is simply fascinating.  I'm wondering why I've never, in all my 65 years, heard of either of these two women before?  Precursors to Mary Kay and Avon, for sure.  In fact, I have no doubt those two businesses glommed onto their "business modeling" ideas from these two enterprising women.

There are several truly fascinating embedded links to follow within the story, as well.  I took the virtual tour of the Walker home and it was pretty darn interesting.

One thing left out of both of these stories is how these women died.  Ms. Walker was only 51, as I recall.  Even in those days it was not usual for 51 year old women to die.  Guess I'll have to do a bit more research!
