 California governor and apparent presidential hopeful Gavin Newsom got all mad when he sat down on a Politico podcast earlier this week. He spoke with urgency, anger and exasperation when he spoke about President Donald Trump. His eyes flashed, his jaw clenched, his leg twitched as he said he was "sick and tired of Democrats being on the losing end in this country and our democracy being on the losing end." And yes, he actually said that with a straight face."We have got to fight fire with fire," he said. Of course, the Democrats were in control of policy for the past four years before Trump. They came into office with a big bottle of white out (I think that should be white wine!!) and reversed everything Trump had put into place.


They retconned Constitutional amendments like Title IX, saying that despite everything we know as human beings men are actually women. They forced experimental drugs on us, closed our schools and churches, told us to trans our kids, said truth and facts were misinformation, but for Newsom the Dems are just these underdogs fighting for justice against the big bad orange man.Right. I'm sure we all believe those crocodile tears, buddy.But the thing that made headlines was his claim that Trump is planning to run for pres in 2028. He cited the red Trump 2028 hats for sale at the White House gift shop as evidence of that fact. "People actually think this guy's serious about having another election? You think he's joking about 2028? You think when he brings foreign leaders to the Oval Office and he goes to the White House store, have you seen this?" Newsom asked.But here's my theory: I think Newsom just wants to run against Trump. Sure, he's taken a jab or two at JD Vance, but what he really wants is to set Trump in his sights and take aim. It's like with all this rhetoric and nonsense about Trump trying to run again Newsom is putting it up on his vision board, trying to manifest it into existence.Newsom complained about Trump inviting world leaders into the gift shop and laughing about the hats. It "drives them crazy," Trump tells pals at the shop. "And he shows them the 2028 hats?" Newsom said. "He's not being serious? Wake up, you will lose your country. Again, it's not about Democrats, it's about all of us," he said.I don't think we will. In a lot of ways, I think we're getting it back. I think Newsom, who signed a bill to punish doctors in 2022 for spreading so-called "Covid misinformation," who turned his state into a factory for child sex changes, who backs boys playing women's sports, who demands open borders for the sake of democracy, who can't get homeowners permits to rebuild after fires, who bypasses his own state's constitution to gerrymander GOP-majority districts out of existence, is the real threat to democracy.
