I don't know if he appointed Bolton on his own or if one of his "advisors" talked him into it, but it was a terrible move.  I said so immediately after I heard the news.  Bolton has always been a hawk for war and will get the USA into big trouble if he's allowed the chance to do so.  GET RID OF JOHN BOLTON.  Best advice someone could give PDJT.
